Abstract
The paper summarizes the development of corpus for developing English textbook materials. The objective of this literature review is to present the possible utilization of Corpus for exploring suitable materials in English Textbooks for Indonesia students’ context. In the wake of technology-assisted language learning, there have been numerous researches unfolding more novel approaches and sources in order to make a suitable learning material. In addition, Dash (2008, p.2) highlights that “[C]omputer technology…has contributed heavily to linguistics by way of supplying new tools and techniques for accumulating evidence of actual language use and analyzing it in newer perspectiveâ€. For instance, recently, more scholars are interested to pay closer attention to Corpus Linguistics which deals with “selections of fields of authentic language use; language data collection; archiving and processing; [and] analysis of language text†(Dash, 2008, p.2). Considering Indonesia’s recent education framework which puts more emphasis on authenticity of the materials, the use of corpus can be an alternative pathway to provide real-life based learning especially for English subject. Therefore, this paper details the brief history of corpus use in language learning along with its current investigation, utilization, and relevance to Indonesia’s English textbook material development.
